Suzuki Hayabusa Powered Go-Kart and Smart Fortwo

| четверг, 1 октября 2009 г.

Driving a go-karts is some of the most fun you can have while looking like a 10 year old. You’re totally exposed and open, and low to the ground, so even the fairly modest speed that a 125cc engine gives you feels supersonic. So I can only image what it’s like to swap out the regular kart motor with a 1300cc Suzuki Hayabusa powerplant. Powerslides and burnouts and, of course, freaky speed. Here’s the builder’s blog.

Check out videos of the go-kart in action after the jump.

Also after the jump, a Smart Fortwo with a Hayabusa engine video. Normally Smart cars have a 3 cylinder engine with less than 1000ccs. Mating it with the 1300cc ‘Busa high quality engine is pure genius. Check it:

HKS Hyundai Genesis Coupe Tuner Car

| среда, 30 сентября 2009 г.

Hyundai has a lot of people are excited about their new Genesis Coupe, and they’re looking to double the excitement next month at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Hyundai execs are working with several aftermarket tuners to create special coupes for the tuner show and they just realease a photo of one of them. This example was created by HKS USA and includes body work mods along with a lot of mechanical upgrades.

Hyundai hasn’t provided details on the engine re-work yet other than noting it’s got an HKS GT Turbo package. Since the guts of the engine are being beefed up, we can safely assume this thing will be running considerably higher boost than a stock Genesis.

With the Genesis, Hyundai is proving it can play with the big boys. Lexus should be worried, really.

GM Boosts MPG Ratings For Chevy, GMC Trucks And SUVs

| пятница, 25 сентября 2009 г.

Chevy Tahoe XFE

A spin on Chrysler’s wave of 2-Mode Hybrid vehicles, GM has announced plans to expand its fuel efficient XFE line-up for 2009. Currently, the only XFE [Xtra Fuel Economy] vehicle available is the Chevy Cobalt XFE, a fuel efficient version of Chevy’s small car that was released last March. Using a combination of mass and drag-reducing enhancements, the Cobalt XFE saw a 9% jump in fuel economy [from 33 mpg hwy to 36 mpg hwy] while the Cobalt line saw an 8% jump in sales.

Recognizing the dramatic change in consumer interests as wrought by the fuel crisis, GM has decided to perform an XFE overhaul on its 2009 large vehicle line up. Among the vehicles scheduled for an XFE face lift: the Chevy Silverado pick-up truck, Chevy Tahoe SUV, GMC Sierra pick-up truck, and the GMC Yukon SUV.

The XFE package will be offered on 2WD vehicles with a 5.3-L V8 engine and 6-sp transmission, and will see a bump of about 1mpg in both city and highway fuel efficiency. Currently, all models marked for XFE conversion average about 14 mpg city/20 hwy. Although the increase probably won’t cause much of a stir in the hybrid/alternative fuel market, buyers already in the market for large, powerful vehicles will appreciate the slight break at the pump.
