2010 Buick Lacrosse Spied Shopping At Old Navy [Detroit Auto Show]

The 2010 Buick LaCrosse is on its way and these latest spy shots of a mostly uncovered Lacrosse show it could be just the car Buick needs.

We first showed you our rendered speculation, thanks to KORSdesign, back in October and judging by the looks of it, we were spot on. The new Buick LaCrosse shown in these spy shots has lost most of the camo it wore in previous images, giving us a pretty clear view of the sumptuous body side surfaces and shoulder design. The shoulder design is a throwback to Buicks of yesteryear, but the younger crowd will compare it to Bentley’s Continental GT and it seems GM’s engineers have played the connection up with a front mask that resembles the Bentley’s headlights and grille.

While mostly covered, the headlamps and tail lights will heavily resemble those used on the 2008 Buick Invicta Concept and can be seen in our illustrated rendition.

The 2010 Buick LaCrosse is the first car developed in the U.S. for GM’s new global front-wheel drive Epsilon II platform and will begin production in February 2009. Expect to see the LaCrosse at country clubs near you by mid-2009, but if you can’t wait, we’ll bring you live images from the Detroit Auto Show floor next month.

2010 Buick LaCrosse - YAWN, Ahem, ‘Scuse Us - Sneak Peek

2010 Buick LaCrosse Sneak Peak

On Monday, GM released a sneak preview of the redesigned Buick LaCrosse. The photo, which is of a relatively unexciting grill, is apparently intended to generate enthusiasm for the 2010 Buck LaCrosse’s official unveiling at the LA Auto Show in November. Besides a “fresh” new grill, one of the 2010 LaCrosse’s most anticipated features, repeated by all the major auto authorities, is its future distinction as the first car to sit on GM’s FWD Epsilon II global platform. Oh, we can hardly contain ourselves.

Rumored to be drawing heavily from the Buick Invicta concept car that debuted earlier this year at the Beijing Auto Show, the 2010 LaCrosse is supposed to be the vehicle that catapults Buick into the 21st century. No word on pricing, but a hopeful GM is banking on selling about 65,000 to 75,000 units annually, most likely indicating an attainable mid-20k to 30k price range.

Wagon Snippet – 1963 Buick

It’s been some time since I’ve featured a wagon, so I thought I’d jump right back into the groove with this 1963 Buick Le Sabre six-passenger wagon.

This one goes back a ways – I had found it up for auction at Mecum’s 2007 event in Kissimmee, Florida, when I did my best to escape winter’s wrath. My notes escape me about the vehicle’s specifics, other than the passenger count and engine size – 280hp version of the two-barrel topped 401-cu.in. V-8. That said, the car was built on a 123-inch wheelbase chassis (shared with the Wildcat/Invicta line) and cost upwards of $3,500 when new. As far as production – 5,566 units – it was third in line behind the 8,771 Special Deluxe wagons and 5,867 Special wagons (both six-passenger variants) that year under the Tri-Shield banner. Note there is a lack of the optional roof rack and two-tone paint, but there is the optional brightwork on the front fenders. As a brief side note, the lack of a third row has its pros and cons among collectors; third row seat Le Sabre wagons this year numbered 3,922.

At the close of the auction, the Le Sabre (Lot # F120, in average condition) sold for $13,650, which included a 5 percent buyer’s premium. Today, a pristine example of this wagon is valued at roughly $15,000.
